Course Description & Intended Audience

Mayo Clinic Radiation Oncology: Current Practice and Future Direction is a comprehensive course designed to explore contemporary cancer treatment through a balanced and multidisciplinary approach. The course format will incorporate didactic lectures, Q&A panel discussions, and poster sessions to provide attendees with an engaging and informative learning experience.

This course will cover a wide range of cancer treatment regimens, including those for breast, GYN, lung, gastrointestinal, head and neck cancers, and more! Course faculty will delve into significant advancements and trending topics in radiation oncology, such as radiopharmaceutical therapy, rapid access sim free treatment, and the use of radiation therapy for benign diseases. Additionally, there will be a section dedicated to important practice updates across various cancer types to ensure attendees are up to date with the latest advancements in radiation oncology.

This course is designed for radiation oncologists, radiation oncology residents, radiation biologists, radiation physicists, dosimetrists, oncologists working in related specialties, radiation oncology nurses, oncologic surgeons, radiation oncology administrators, diagnostic radiologists, and other health professionals involved in the field of radiation oncology.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Summarize recent advancements in low and high-grade gliomas
  • Review the surgical and non-surgical approaches in the management of rectal cancer
  • Examine recent developments in early-stage breast cancer management.
  • Recognize considerations involved in establishing and implementing a radiopharmaceutical therapy practice
  • Identify updates on palliative (non-SBRT) radiotherapy
