Overview

Course Description & Intended Audience

The Mayo Clinic Gynecologic and Breast Imaging Review course is a postgraduate medical course that will provide practicing radiologists and radiologists-in-training with current information on the imaging diagnosis and management of breast and gynecologic disease.  The didactic component of the course will focus on standard practices and core knowledge of imaging interpretation, while emphasizing emerging techniques and current controversies in breast and pelvic imaging.  A multidisciplinary approach will be utilized, with speakers from breast and gynecologic surgery, as well as discussion of breast pathology.

Hands‑On Cryoablation Workshop: This interactive session provides learners with the opportunity to gain practical experience with cryoablation through a supervised learning using current ablation systems. Activities will be focused on cryoablation techniques in the breast.

Participants will have the opportunity to trial cryoablation probes using ultrasound guidance in a low‑pressure learning environment, with faculty guidance and real‑time input from our ablation and ultrasound industry partners. The workshop is designed to enhance familiarity with equipment, workflow, and technique, helping attendees translate cryoablation principles into clinical practice.

While this workshop is included as part of the course curriculum and does not require an additional fee, pre-registration will be required.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Review the imaging approach to first-trimester pregnancy, infertility, pelvic floor disorders, and endometriosis using ultrasound and MRI to improve diagnostic accuracy and multidisciplinary management
  • Identify key imaging features of gynecologic malignancies and Müllerian anomalies and analyze the role of O-RADS, AI, and radiologic–surgical correlation in guiding treatment planning and risk stratification
  • Describe current breast cancer screening strategies, including breast density assessment and BI-RADS 2025 updates, and evaluate emerging technologies and image-guided cryoablation in clinical practice
  • Apply multimodality breast imaging techniques (tomosynthesis, ultrasound, MRI, and contrast-enhanced mammography) to differentiate benign, high-risk, and inflammatory breast conditions and determine appropriate management pathways
  • Evaluate radiology–pathology concordance, postoperative breast imaging findings, workflow optimization strategies, and legal considerations to optimize quality, safety, and efficiency in breast imaging practice

Attendance at this Mayo Clinic course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course.
